Police seize over 80 poppy husk bags, nab two smugglers

Moga, Mar 24 (UNI) Over 80 bags of poppy husk worth Rs 30 lakh were seized and two notorious smugglers were nabbed in this district in last two days, police today said.

Senior Superintendent police Asho Baath told UNI that during the last 48 hours police have seized 82 bags of poppy husk from three different check posts and arrested two notorious smugglers while three managed to escape in the cover of darkness.

Last night, police intercepted a vehicle at a checkpost and overpowered a notorious smuggler Kulwant Singh of Jamalpur district Ludhiana. About 30 bags of around 10.50 quintals of poppy husk were recovered from his vehicle, he said.

According to the SSP, 22 bags were seized by the Smalsar police, and 30 bags were recovered by the Moga Sadar police during the nakas in the district in last two days.

The police also impounded a Jeep and a canter being used to carry the contraband, he said.
