Hussainiwala a tourist destination, tribute of Shaheed Bhagat Singh
Hussainiwala/ Nawanshahar, Mar 23 (UNI) The Punjab Government will develop Hussainiwala, the site on the banks of the Sutlej river where Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and his two associates, Sukhdev and Rajguru were cremated, as a tourist destination.
In addition the government will develop Khatkar Kalan in Nawanshahar district, the native village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh as a 'Mecca of Martyrs'.
These announcements were made by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on the occasion of the state level functions at Hussainiwala and Khakar Kalan organized on the 77th martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
At Khatkar Kalan, Mr Badal unfolded a plan to develop a historic monument dedicated in memory of the three martyrs in the village. A facelift would be given to the existing museum where the portraits of the freedom fighters and their artifacts are displayed.
In Hussainiwala on the Indo-Pakistan border, the Chief Minister paid floral tributes at the 'samadhis' of the three martyrs and announced that the state government was in touch with UN World Tourism Development Organisation for the development of this historical place as a tourist destination. He announced that a Rs one crore plan had been cleared for setting up tourist huts at Hussainiwala and for lighting the entire road stretch from Ferozpur Cantt to the border.
In addition the Chief Minister also announced that a light and sound programme depicting the heroic sacrifices of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Lala Lajpat Rai and others would be started soon at Hussainiwala.
He also announced that a sum of Rs 200 crore had been sanctioned by the central government for repair of roads in the four border districts of the state. A meeting of the MPs and MLAs of the border districts would be called soon at Chandigarh to finalise this plan, he announced.
