Dr Lohia's 98th birth anniversary celebrated in UP

Lucknow, Mar 23 (UNI) Samajwadi Party today celebrated Dr Ram Manohar Lohia's 98th birth anniversary with enthusiasm and gaeity in Uttar Pradesh.

While paying tribute to Mr Lohia at Lohia Trust in Vikramaditya Marg here, SP MP Bhagwati Singh said, ''His thoughts are not only relevant to the country, but also to the world.'' Mr Singh said, Dr Lohia gave the ''Daam Niti'' (price policy) which stressed that no item should exceed more that 1.5 times of its original price.

If this policy be implemented in the state, not only price hike of essential commodity could be controlled, but suicide rate of farmers would also come down, he added.

Agriculture would then become a business of profit, he underlined.

The Leader of Opposition in state legislative council Ahmad Hasan, state SP secretary S R S Yadav also spoke on the occassion.

In Pratapgarh, UP Congress secretary Om Prakash Pandey and others offered flowers and paid tribute to Lohia in a function at Lohia Park.

The day was celebrated with full zeal in entire UP.
