BJP for waiver of weaver loans: Sushma

Hyderabad, Mar 23: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj today asked the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre to waive the loans of weavers in the country similar to the scheme announced for farmers.

Addressing the press here, she claimed the weavers were in distress 'with several committing suicide.' However, she blamed the Union Government for announcing the farm loan waiver without assessing complications.

She claimed Union Finance Minister P Chidamabaram hurriedly announced farm loan waiver without making any budgetary allocation.

Terming the scheme an'eyewash,' she said the government announced it without any scientific study and with an eye on the forthcoming elections in the country.

Ms Swaraj also claimed the figures given by the Centre and RBI on the waiver did not match.
