AP rly station gets Rs 25 cr for uplift
Vijayawada, Mar 23 (UNI) The Railway Ministry has allocated Rs 25 crore for the Vijayawada station for taking up developmental works, a Minister of State for Railways R Velu said today.
Addressing the press here, Mr Velu said of the total allocation, Rs 2.7 crore was spent while works costing Rs 13.3 crore were in progress.
The Railways had earmarked Rs 4,000 crore to improve the toilets in 36,000 coaches by next year.
The Vijayawada Division of the South Central Railway (SCR) had fetched a passenger revenue of Rs 100 crore till March 2008, he said.
The Railways proposed aluminium and stainless steel coaches for Express and Passenger Trains as the low-weight coaches could carry more passengers.
An 'effluent treatment plant' at a cost of Rs 47 lakh would be set up for recycling waste water and using it to clean coaches.
Dedicated freight corridors would be established between Delhi and Mumbai and Ludhiana and Kolkata in the first phase, the minister said.
Freight corridors between Chennai-Kolkata, Chennai-Delhi, Chennai-Goa and Mumbai-East Coast would be created in the second and third phases, he added.
