Meeting on Telangana postponed due to Congress pressure:TRDB
Hyderabad, Mar 21 (UNI) Senior Congress Leader and Chairman of the Telangana Regional Development Board(TRDB) U Purushottam Reddy today alleged that the proposed meeting on Telangana at Bhuwanagiri in Nalgonda district on March 24 had been postponed owing to ''pressure'' from the Congress High Command.
Talking to newspersons here, he said, All India Congress Committee(AICC) President Sonia Gandhi's Political Secretary Ahmed Patel had, over telephone, advised the senior Congress leaders of Telangana region to postpone the meeting, in view of the core committee of the party discussing the Telangana issue.
Mr Patel said the Congress was committed to separate Telangana and the high command would take a positive decision in this regard.
The leaders had faith on Ms Gandhi and they would abide by her decision, he added.
Earlier today, he told UNI on arrival from New Delhi that the meeting would be organised on March 24 and it was only to strengthen the party.
Asked whether the senior leaders informed Ms Gandhi about the meeting, he replied in the affirmative and expressed his happiness over her patient hearing and responding positively to their views during the 90-minute meeting.
The High Command decided to refer the Telangana issue to the core committee of the party scheduled to be held today in New Delhi.
