Indebted farmer commits suicide in Punjab

Sangrur, Mar 21 (UNI) A farmer who was in debt allegedly committed suicide at his home in Manki village in the district last night, police today stated.

The victim identified as Gurmit Singh (34) consumed a pesticide and was rushed to the civil hospital at Malerkotla when his condition deteriorated. He died in hospital.

According to the police the deceased was under heavy debt ever since his wheat crop was destroyed in a fire about two years back.

He was finding it difficult to return the loan he had taken from private commission agents.
