Rajasthan Government aware of land deals in border areas: Jaiswal
New Delhi, Mar 19 : The Rajasthan Government has informed the Centre that it is aware of the large-scale land transactions taking place in the border areas of the State.
Sriprakash Jaiswal, the Minister of State for Home, today informed the Rajya Sabha that the Rajasthan Government has initiated a detailed inquiry into these transactions with the intention of identifying the purchasers and ascertaining the bonafide motives behind such transactions.
Preliminary enquiries indicate that parties not belonging to Rajasthan have also purchased land. The Government of Rajasthan has since placed four sub-registrars under suspension for procedural violations and has started disciplinary action against other officials, Jaiswal said.
While speculation linked to expectations about improved highway connectivity, new projects of irrigation and prospects of oil and gas finds may be a factor for accelerated investments in land in these areas, a definitive conclusion and analysis will be possible only after completion of the detailed enquiry being undertaken by the Government of Rajasthan with the support of Central Government agencies, Jaiswal said.
The Home Ministry is closely monitoring the issue in coordination with the State Government, Jaiswal said.
