No snap polls to Lok Sabha : Y C
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 19 (UNI) All India Youth Congress General Secretary Chandan Kumar Yadav has ruled out the possibility of a mid-term poll for the Lok Sabha and said the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre will complete its term.
Addressing a press conference here last night, Mr Yadav, who is also in charge of the party's youth wing affairs in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Jharkhand and Andaman and Nicobar islands, said the Y C office bearers were currently undertaking a countrywide tour to assess the status of the YC and getting feedback on strengthening it further, besides enrolling more youth.
He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's present tour in different parts of the country had evoked good response among the party cadres. Mr Gandhi, who had galvanised the YC by taking charge of its affairs, would visit Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in two months, he added.
To a question, Mr Yadav said the structure of YC in Tamil Nadu would be revived and strengthened till the level of panchayats to oversee the progress of the Union Government's schemes for farmers, youth, women and working class.
He said the mandate of the YC functionaries was to tour all districts and find out the problems at the grassroot level.
The YC State unit had assessed the schemes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Bharat Nirman at the block level, he said, adding that the YC members were supportive of pro-poor policies of the State Government.
