Toll rises to 8 in Mumbai Industrial fire

Mumbai, Mar 18: The toll in the Retiwala Industrial Estate fire rose to eight with three more succumbing to their burns today. Fifty four others were injured, two of them critically, in the fire at Byculla in South-central Mumbai yesterday.

Additional Commissioner of Police Rajnesh Seth said here today, ''A special team have been constituted to investigate the cause of fire, which is yet to be ascertained. After getting preliminary report from fire brigade, the investigation will commence.'' The fire broke out in a perfume manufacturing unit, on the third floor of a four-storeyed building, with its each floor containing 25 units.

More than 20 fire engines, ten water tankers and three ambulances were deployed at the spot, fire brigade sources said.

No arrest have been made in the case, so far.

However, police have registered a case of negligence against Mr Baljit Gandhi, who is the owner of the perfume manufacturing unit.
