Special Police Stations to curb atrocities on Dalits in AP

Hyderabad, Mar 18 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government will soon set up special police stations in districts with high crime rate to prevent atrocities on Dalits, Social Welfare Minister P Subash Chandrabose said today.

Replying to the debate on the demand for grants for his department, the Minister said his department had identified Prakasam, Guntur, West Godavari, Kadapa, Karimnagar, Khammam and Adilabad as atrocity-prone districts.

Asserting that the Congress Government was committed to spending more on Dalits' welfare, the Minister said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy would review the amount spent by various departments and utilise the remaining fund for their welfare in the following year.

The State Government would renovate 800 social welfare hostels in a phased manner and improve facilities for Dalit students, he said.

So far, over 21,000 posts reserved for SCs were filled up, he said, urging the Opposition party members to withdraw their cut motions and approve the demand for Rs 2251.92 crore for his department.
