Education should build character: Prof Naik
Ahmednagar, Mar 18: Character building should be the ultimate aim of education, former All India History congress president Prof J V Naik has said.
He was speaking at a seminar on ''Value Education'' organised by the K G Somaiya College here yesterday. Prof Naik, while underlining the need for value education, lamented that traditional education has failed to create awareness about ethics. ''Mother is the greatest 'guru' of a child. The more learned and aware she is, the better the next generation,'' he said.
''Avoid the seven sins as pointed out by Mahatma Gandhi -- politics without principles, commerce without morality, wealth without work, education without character, science without humanity, pleasure without conscience, and worship without sacrifice,'' Prof Naik said.
Senior journalist Arun Tikekar, while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the need to formulate a code of conduct for the media.
Today, the credibility and integrity of the media has become doubtful, he rued.
