BJP flays 'anti-farmer' policies of LDF Govt
Alappuzha,Kerala, Mar 18 (UNI) Kerala BJP President P K Krishnadas today alleged that the 'inefficient policies' of the state government fuelled the damage of thousands of hectare of paddy in the Kuttanad Area, spread across Alappuzha and Kottayam Districts.
Speaking to farmers at Thayankara in Kuttanad, Mr Krishnadas said '' the iron hand of pro-CPM Kerala Karshaka Thozhilali Union (KSKTU) was behind in not allowing the use of machines for harvesting, which resulted in grave consequences.'' His party would protest the anti-farmer policies of the government and strive to root out the prevailing 'union militancy' in the area.
It was estimated that Rs five crore of paddy cultivation was destroyed due to summer rainfall and 'trade union militancy' in the area.
Yesterday, the Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front had staged a walkout from the State Assembly, protesting the government's refusal to allow a debate on the issue.
