TN Sports University confers doctorate on Anand

Chennai, Mar 17: India's Chess Grand Master and world champion Viswanathan Anand was conferred an Honorary Doctorate by Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University here today.

The honour was conferred by Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala at Raj Bhavan this morning, in absentia as Anand is away in Nice in France to participate in the Amber Blindfold and Rapid chess tournament.

Anand's parents received the honour on his behalf in the presence of Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi.
