Raje to riase reservation guota for women in civil bodies to 50%
Jaipur, Mar 17 (UNI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has announced to raise reservation quota for women in Civil Bodies in the state from present 33 per cent to 50 per cent.
Replying to debate on Rajasthan Appropriation(No.2) Bill 2008 and Rajasthan Finance Bill 2008 in the state assembly here this evening, Ms Raje said like Panchayati Raj institutions, women in the state would be provided 50 per cent reservation in urban Civil Bodies.
Earlier, while presenting state budget 2008-2009 in the assembly last month, Ms Raje, who also holds the Finance portfolio, had raised the reservation quota for women up to 50 per cent, in Panchayati Raj institutions.
She said that women constituted 50 per cent of our population and therefore they should be given reservation appropriately.
Opposition Congress members CP Joshi and his some other colleagues objected to Ms Raje's announcement and said that the elections to Panchayats and Civil Bodies were due after two years and the present government had got mandate only up to November this year.
However, the chief minister ignored their objections.
