Mukhtar Ansari's sharp shooter escapes from police custody

Lucknow, Mar 17 (UNI) Controversial independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari's sharp shooter today escaped from police custody in Varanasi.

On March 11, Ritesh alias Bantu Singh, an undertrial who worked for Mukhtar, was admitted for some treatment at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hospital, police said.

However, Ritesh today hoodwinked three policemen and flew the coop.

Mukhtar is accused in 2005 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Krishnanand Rai assassination case.

Controversial MLA's brother, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Afzal Ansari and their brother-in-law Ezaz-ul-Haq are the prime accused in the case.

Meanwhile, the three policemen have been suspended for Ritesh's escape.
