Tamil Nadu: MK announces relief for road mishap victims

Chennai, Mar 17: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced an assistance of Rs 10.40 lakh to the victims of a road accident at Tirutharaipoondi which left eight people dead and 24 injured. An official release here said Mr Karunanidhi announced a solatium of Rs one lakh each to those killed and Rs 10,000 to each of the injured.

One of the deceased Saroja was a member of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Workers Welfare Board, she was sanctioned an assistance of Rs one lakh from the Member's Accident Relief Scheme, while the families of the seven other deceased were given assistance from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

Mr Karunanidhi expressed shock and grief over the accident and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the release said.
