Indo-Turkish culture inspire designs at Wills India Fashion Week

New Delhi, Mar 17 : Models glided down the ramp displaying fabrics inspired by Indo-Turkish culture on the fifth and final day of the Wills India Fashion Week (WIFW) on Sunday.

The sizzling Autumn Winter 2008 collection of Puja Arya portrayed a harmonious merge between the textiles traditions of India and Turkey.

"The collection is inspired by the Turkish embroidery which is very rich. It is done on wall hanging kind of floor covering. The block printing is taken from there," said Arya.

Motivated by spectacular embroidered wall hangings, the rich patterns on skirt hems and yokes of gowns sported by models on the ramp had abstract motifs set against contrasting rich tones and hues in a variety of fabrics reminding the flow of caravan in desert.

Earlier, the audience revisited the Bengal Renaissance of 19th century, a period in Indian history known for socio-religious and literary awakening, through creations of Priya Awasthy.

"Its been inspired by the Bengal Renaissance, basically. It's a revival collection. The era of Bengal in 1875, that's basically, is my inspiration. I have contemporized it completely," said Awasthy.

Her versatile collection of fabrics covering almost every indigenous variety was made more eye catching as the colour palette too presented a wide range.

Events like the Wills India Fashion Week provide a platform for the designers to directly interact with the buyers and do good business.
