Delhi aims at equitable growth opportunities for women: LG

New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna today asserted that the Shiela Dikshit government was working towards equitable growth opportunities for women.

Addressing the inaugural day of the Budget session of the Delhi legislative assembly here, Mr Khanna said the state government has appointed 17 protection officers in all the districts of the state under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

The protection officers were mandated with protecting women from physical, emotional, sexual and verbal abuse. A total of 27 service centres were registered to provide assistance to aggrieved women.

''The DTC has introduced a Women Helpline and has tied up with NGOs to impart training to DTC staff in a bid to sensitise them towards the need of women and physically challenged,'' he added.

The Lt Governor said Gender Resource Centres have been set up under the Stree Shakti initiative and 43 of these have been made functional in different parts of Delhi. The centres have been strengthened as single-window facilitation centres for women, with special attention to convergence of delivery system.
