BoA to take up 9 SEZs proposals on March 20

New Delhi, Mar 16: The inter-ministerial meeting of the board of approval (BoA) will take up nine proposals of special economic zones (SEZs) in its meeting on March 20 in the light of categorical statement by Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath ruling out any amendment in the SEZ Act.

The nine projects include conversion of an in-principle approval granted to an information technology and IT-enabled services SEZ to be set up on 95 hectares of land at Kusumgiri in Kerala by Smart City (Kochi) Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. Of the remaining eight proposals, five are also in respect of IT/ITes, and one each is in engineering, biotech and multi-product, an official statement said. Of the five IT/ITes SEZs proposed to be set up, two each will be located in Haryana and Karnataka and one in Maharasthra. Haryana's tax-free enclaves will come up in Gurgaon district and the promoters are Wellgrow Buildcon Pvt Ltd and Sunwise Properties Pvt Ltd, the SEZs in Karnataka will be taken up by Brigade Enterprises Pvt Ltd in Mangalore and Gokaldas Images Infrastructure Pvt Ltd in Devanhalli in Bangalore's rural district. The Maharasthra IT/ITeS SEZ will come up Pune and promotors are DLF Akruti Info Parks (Pune)Ltd.

The Biotech project by Developer Vivo Biotech Ltd is slated to be established in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh, while the multi-product SEZ promoted by Limitless Properties Ltd will also come up in Andhra Pradesh's Anatapur district.The promotors will set up the multi-product SEZ on 1,000 hectares of land.

State-owned Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation(MIDC) has decided to set up an engineering SEZ at Phattan in Satara district.
