Karnataka: 'Raj Bhavan Chalo' rally by BJP
Bangalore, Mar 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took out a 'Raj Bhavan Chalo' rally here today, demanding implementation of the 'Sandhya Suraksha' scheme announced by the previous BJP-JD(S) coalition Government.
Thousands of BJP workers participated in the rally and shouted slogans against the delay in implementing the scheme, aimed at providing succour to all senior citizens in the State.
In a memorandum to the Governor, BJP State General Secretary and party spokesman S Suresh Kumar alleged that of the total Rs 250 crore earmarked for the scheme, only Rs four crore was released after implementation of President's rule in the State. The true spirit of the scheme had been defeated and the senior citizens felt betrayed, he added.
The memorandum also raised the delay in implementation of the Cabinet decision on distribution of ration cards to people living Below the Poverty Line (BPL). The move, aimed at helping the 12.70 lakh BPL families, was not given effect to and lakhs of applications, duly scrutinised by competent authorities, were pending before the department concerned.
