PM new Chancellor of Vishwabharati University

Shantiniketan, Mar 15 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil today appointed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the new Chancellor of Vishwabharati University here.

Vishwabharati Registrar Manimukud Mitra told mediapersons here that a press release from the Human Resource Development ministry has informed the university about Dr Singh's new role as the University's Chancellor.

According to a Vishwabharati Act, the University's executive council panel can recommend only three names for the post.

Mr Mitra informed that the panel had suggested the names of Dr Manmohan Singh, former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and former Chief Justice Leela Seth for the post.
