Opposition demand CBI probe in Cooperative Bank scam
Bhubaneswar, Mar 15 (UNI) The Opposition Congress today demanded a CBI probe into the scam in the Orissa State Co-operative Bank during November 2006 and October 2007.
Raising the issue during zero hour through a special mention, Congress deputy leader Narasingh Mishra said the bank suffered a loss to the tune of Rs 33 crore due to the scam.
Mr Mishra said a person close to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and ruling BJD spokesman, who was heading the bank at that time, purchased security bonds worth Rs 153 crore while its market value was only Rs 123 crore.
An investigation by NABARD revealed that the bank suffered a loss of Rs 33 crore due to the faulty decision. He appealed to the Speaker to direct the authorities to make a statement in the House in this regard.
