One person killed in gang rivalry in Bihar jail

Motihari, Mar 15: One undertrial was gunned down by rival gang members in the local Sub-Divisional jail premises today following severe gang rivalry among various criminal groups.

East Champaran District Superintendent of Police S K Jha told UNI here that the undertrial and the leader of a criminal gang, Munna Singh, was shot dead from point blank range by the members of his rival gang as soon as he returned to the jail premises after appearing the in a local court in connection with a murder case.

The victim died on the spot sustaininig multiple bullet injuries.

Describing the incident as a 'revenge killing', the SP said a few months ago the members of the Munna Singh gang had killed the leader of a rival gang and another undertrial Chotelal Sahni in a similar way setting off brutal rivalry among the prisoners.

'' We are now probing as to how arms and ammunition were sneaked into the jail premises for carrying out such murders, '' the SP said.

District Magistrate J K Sinha was also camping at the jail to identify the assailants and coordinate the search operation to trace the smuggled arms into the jail.

However, none had so far been arrested.
