Nominations filed for RS and Bihar Legislative Council
Patna, Mar 15 (UNI) Sabir Ali of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Govinda Pandey, Independent, filed their nominations on the last day today for the biennial election to five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar.
Assembly Secretary-cum-Returning Officer Surendra Prasad Sharma said here that altogether six candidates had filed their nomination papers.
Among them were former State Minister Shivanand Tiwari and former Planning Commission member N K Singh as ruling JD(U) candidates, former Union Health Minister C P Thakur as BJP nominee and Union Company Affairs Minister Prem Chandra Gupta as the RJD candidate, all of whom filed their papers yesterday.
Moreover, Dr Ezaz Ali had filed his nomination as JD(U) candidate for the byelection to the Rajya Sabha seat, being held following the death of Motiur Rehman of the RJD.
Regarding the biennial election to the Bihar Legislative Council, Mr Sharma informed that altogether ten candidates filed the papers till today, the last day of filing of nominations.
While eight candidates had put their papers till yesterday, Congress nominess Jyoti Devi and Independent candidate Syed Mohammad Asraf filed their papers today.
The scrutiny of all nomination papers will be held on March 17, while the last date for withdrawal of papers is March 19.
Elections to five Rajya Sabha and nine Bihar Legislative Council seats, if necessary, would be held on March 26, Mr Sharma informed.
