Revenue official in vigilance net in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 14 (UNI) A revenue official was today arrested by Vigilance Organisation (VO) after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe in the central Kashmir district of Badgam.

A VO spokesman said one Abdul Rehman Wani lodged a written complaint with the organisation that Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, patwari halqa Pallar, Badgam, was demanding a bribe for issuing revenue record of his land at Check Kaley Khan.

He said a trap was laid and Bhat was caught red-handed demanding and accepting Rs 2000 in bribe from Mr Wani.

The accused patwari had demanded illegal gratification from Wani for issuing the extracts of his land measuring about three kanals of land.

The tainted money was recovered from his possession in presence of the independent witnesses and his hand wash also tested positive.

The extract of the revenue record of the land of the complainant was also recovered from the Patwari and seized. The accused was taken into custody for further investigation.
