Mother, son commits suicide
Varanasi, Mar 14 (UNI) With a view to attaining salvation, an elderly woman and her son committed suicide at Hanuman ghat in Bhelupura area here yesterday, police said today.
In a suicide letter recovered from their guest house room, the mother-son duo wrote they were consuming poison to in order to attain ''moksha''(salvation). They also left Rs 6,000 for performing their last rites at Harishchandra ghat, situated on the bank of river Ganga here.
According to a Hindu belief, one who dies in Varanasi gets salvation.
As per the guest house records, the youth had given his name as Arun Moli, while the name of his 65-yr-old mother was not given.
The deceased mentioned that they were residents of Tamil Nadu.
The bodies had been sent for autopsy, police added.
