Chandigarh Science Congress begins today at PU
Chandigarh, Mar 14 (UNI) Haryana Governor Dr A R Kidwai today made an ardent appeal to the academicians, scientists, teachers, researchers and students to develop India as a leading centre of scientific research.
The Governor was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day 2nd Chandigarh Science Congress (CHASCON-2008) organised by the Panjab University, Chandigarh at its campus on the theme 'Empowering India by Scientific Integration, Innovation and Invention'.
"India has more resources and opportunities than that of other American and European countries. India could be developed as a leading centre of research in the field of various social as well as other sciences," the Governor said.
Congratulating the organisers of CHASCON-2008, the Governor said that in this mega science event, students and researchers would get a golden opportunity of sharing and interacting their ideas with eminent scientists and teachers.
Panjab University Vice-Chancellor R C Sobti in his welcome address said that almost all the science institutes in an around the city were participating in CHASCON-2008.
He said that the University had started 35 new courses at its campus and many more such new courses were being planned for future to give a number of research as well as job oriented opportunities to its students.
Later, the Governor inaugurated an exhibition put up on this occasion projecting various scientific instruments, devices and goods to be used in daily life.
