Furore in Council over transfer of Magadh University teachers
Patna, Mar 13 (UNI) The Bihar Legislative Council today witnessed acrimonious scene over transfer of 25 teachers of Magadh University as the members cutting across party lines, demanded immediate stay on the transfer order issued by the Vice Chancellor of the university.
The matter was raised in the House through call attention motion by RJD member Nawal Kishore Yadav, who said the teachers were facing hardship due to transfers as well as the teaching in respective departments of the colleges were also affected.
" In the name of rationalisation, the VC of Magadh University was engaged in harassing the teachers" and this should be stopped forthwith, he added.
Pacifying the agitated members, the acting chairman of the House Professor Arun Kumar said the vice chancellor was not empowered to transfer the teachers under the University Act and Governor who also happens to be the Chancellor of the universities, was the only authority to transfer the teachers.
Meanwhile, Human Resources Development Minister Brishen Patel urged the acting chairman to refer the matter to chancellor after going through all the relevant documents. He said the transfer orders could be stayed by the Governor as the state government had no such power.
