Substituting wood with bamboo could lead to saving of Rs 7000 crore
New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Government agreed to reports prepared by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM) that the country can save Rs 7000 crore by using bamboo instead of weed, said the Minister of Environment and Forests S Regupathy in the Lok Sabha today.
It is a fact that bamboo has a very high potential as a viable substitute to wood and other traditional material for housing, furniture and other building materials, he said.
Mr Regupathy said to promote subsitution of wood by bamboo, the government launched the National Mission on Bamboo Application under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Mission is actively engaged in promoting and disseminating technology for the use of bamboo and is also encouraging entrepreneurs to establish bamboo based industrial units with the help of available technology.
