SAD not to 'interfere' in panchayat polls
Chandigarh, Mar 12 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today declared that the party will contest the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections scheduled to be held on April seven on the party symbol.
However the party will not interfere in the Panchayat elections to be held on the same date, he said in a statement here.
Mr Badal said that to finalise the party candidates for the Zila Parishads and Block Samitis, different committees had been constituted at the level of assembly constituuencies. These committees include district presidents of SAD, concerned MP, local MLA/party candidate and local SGPC members.
The President of Youth wing of the party has also been taken as a special invitee in these committees.
Mr Badal further said that one senior leader of the party has been appointed as an observer in these committees. He will coordinate, supervise and also interact with the BJP at the local level. These committees will screen the party candidates and will forward the lists of eligible candidates to the party head office.
The party observers for the different district are: Dr Upinderjit Kaur (Gurdaspur), Capt Kanwaljit Singh (Amritsar), Gurdev Singh Badal (Jalandhar), Dr Rattan Singh (Kapurthala), Maheshinder Singh Grewal (Hoshiarpur), Ajaib Singh Mukhmailpur (Nawanshahr), Sucha Singh Langah (Ropar), Balwinder Singh Bhundar (Ludhiana), Bibi Jagir Kaur (Patiala) and Sewa Sekhwan (Sangrur and Barnala), Jathedar Tota Singh (Bhatinda), Ranjit Singh Brahmpura (Muktsar), Gulzar Singh Ranike (Ferozepur), Ajit Singh Kohar(Moga), Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar (Faridkot ), Sarwan Singh Phillaur (Mansa), Surjit Singh Rkahra (Fatehgarh Sahib), Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra ( Tarn Taran) and Jathedar Hira Singh Gabria (Mohali).
