Petersen signs on to helm 'Uprising'

Washington, Mar 12 : Wolfgang Petersen is directing the sci-fi thriller 'Uprising' for Columbia Pictures.

Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing the film, which revolves around the resistance efforts of some citizens after Earth gets occupied by a powerful alien race, through their Sony-based Red Wagon shingle.

Charles Leavitt is providing the screenplay, reports Variety.

According to Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad, Wolfgang Petersen is 'just the right director to handle 'Uprising's' mix of action, suspense and drama."

Petersen's credits include 'Poseidon,' 'Troy' and 'The Perfect Storm.'
