Pandemonium over farmers' plight in Upper House

Mumbai, Mar 12 (UNI) Pandemonium prevailed in the Upper House of the State Legislature over the issue of farmers' loan waiver and their continued suicides.

The issue was raised before the question hour by leader of the Opposition Pandurang Phundkar, who said that despite the loan waiver the farmers' suicides continued.

Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said that the State Government could take a decision only after the Central Government announced its stand on the issue.

The House was adjourned thrice by Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh.

However, the pandemonium prevailed as the opposition members, led by Mr Phundkar, entered the well and even climbed the podium.

After the third adjournment, the Chairman ran through the day's proceedings even as the opposition members continued with the anti-government slogans.

The opposition boycotted the remaining proceedings of the day.
