Centre should waive loans of all farmers: TDP

Hyderabad, Mar 10 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu today demanded that the Centre waive loans taken by all farmers.

Addressing the press here, Mr Naidu pointed out that only 4 to 5 per cent farmers would benefit by the Centre's decision of waiver of farmers' loans.

The Centre's policy would not help a majority of the farmers to get rid of their debts, he noted.

Demanding that the Centre also implement the recommendations of Swaminathan Committee report and the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP) Chairman's suggestions to revive the agriculture sector by providing Minimum Support Price (MSP) to all farm products, the former Chief Minister said the waiver of farmers' loans was just an 'eyewash' effort towards solving the peasants problems.

Stating that the Centre did not spell out the budgetary allocation for the waiver of loans and no steps were taken to solve the present agrarian crisis, Mr Naidu, who is also United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) Convener said the UNPA would organise rallies and meetings till the farmers get their due share.
