Wanted criminal gunned down in encounter

Lucknow, Mar 8 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police tonight gunned down a wanted criminal carrying a bounty of over Rs 10,000 on his head in an encounter in Gorakhpur district.

Acting on a tip-off, cops cordoned off the Khokhrabad area. On being challenged, the history-sheeter opened fire.

In the ensuing encounter, a notorious criminal, identified as Pushpraj Singh Yadav of Bhind in Madhya Pradesh, was eliminated.

A pistol and a large number of cartridges were recovered from the spot, police said.

Over 20 heinous cases were pending against the slain criminal in UP, Gujarat, MP and Rajasthan.

He was also wanted in connection with the murder of two police constables in Gujarat last year.
