One militant killed, 2 surrendered, 5 arrested in J and K
Srinagar, Mar 9 (UNI) Security forces killed one militant and arrested five others, while three more surrendered in Jammu and Kahmir overnight.
One militant was killed by the security forces in an encounter during the search operation at Thethri in Kishtwar district of Jammu region today. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant of Hizbul Mujahideen.
Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a self-styled District Commander (DC) of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) without any resistance in south Kashmir.
A police spokesman said police conducted a search operation at village Maratgam in the frontier district of Kupwara following a tip-off about the presence of the militants there.
He said during the operation police arrested Mushtaq Ahmad Malla alias Furqan, the DC of HM, along with one AK rifle, three magazines, 81 rounds of ammunition, three hand grenades, one pouch and three detonators.
The militant, arrested without any resistance, was involved in a number of killings and other militancy-related incidents, he said.
Another militant was apprehended at Arin Bandipora along with two hand grenades and 100 AK rounds last evening.
Police also arrested three suspected militants during a search operation at Rajouri and recovered from their instance Rs 1,14,000, two mobile sets and seven sim cards of Airtel from the house of Mohammad Zulaf last evening.
An official spokesman said two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen surrendered before the security forces at Reasi along with two AK rifles, six magazines, one hand grenade, a wireless set, four antenna, one remote control device, 102 detonators and over 500 rounds of ammunition.
Security forces and police, during a search operation at general area of Phagla in Poonch district of Jammu region, recovered 14 detonators, three grenades, three RPG rounds, 148 pika rounds, one wireless set, three AK magazines and 90 AK rounds.
