HC cancels anticipatory bail of accused in hit and run case
Madurai, Mar 7 (UNI) The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today cancelled the anticipatory bail to an accused, who had allegedly attempted to kill two Tamil Nadu Highways Department officials and a police constable last month at Udayarvilai in Kanyakumari district.
Justice K N Pasha cancelled the anticipatory bail to A Senthil Kumar, which was granted to him earlier. Senthil had allegedly tried to kill two Highways officials and a police constable by running a car over them on February 6.
The bail was cancelled following a request from state police, stating that the accused had attempted to murder the officials, who were removing encroachments on government lands as per an High Court order.
The incident occurred when the accused drove his car and hit the officials--Junior Engineer Sundaram, Assistant Engineer Anthony Xavier, Tahsildar Kanaga Sabapathy and Revenue Officer Abdul Manna, who were overseeing the eviction operation.
Three people, including Sundaram, Anthony and an Head Constable Vincent were injured in the incident.
While Senthil Kumar's father and mother were released on bail, the accused surrendered before the Thackalai court on March 5.
