Vazhiyachan passes away near Kottayam

Kottayam, Mar 4: Renowned social activist Fr Thomas Viruthiyil, popularly known as Vazhiyachan died at a private nursing home in Muttuchira, near here last night. He was 79.

The funeral will be held at St George Church Manvettom tomorrow. Fr Viruthiyil, apart from religious work, he had dedicated his life for carrying out social activities. More than 1600 km of roads and few bridges were constructed under his initiative in Kottayam and Alappuzha districts.

Several awards were given to him in recognition of his social contributions.
