Upper House adjourned over Panchayati Raj issue in Bihar

Patna, Mar 4 (UNI) The Bihar Legislative Council was adjourned for ten minutes during the post-lunch session today following 'dharna' by the members of local bodies.

The members demanded empowerment and streamlining of the Panchayati Raj system.

Dissatisfied with the reply of Bihar Panchayati Raj Minister Narendra Narayan Yadav on a call attention of Mr Lal Das Rai, the members from local bodies trooped into the well and demanded immediate implementation of the Gram Kachahri system.

The members staged dharna and asked the government to streamline and empower the Panchayati Raj institution.

The din and bustle continued for over 20 minutes.

All efforts of the Legislative Council Chairman Arun Kumar to bring the House in order failed following which the House was adjourned for ten minutes.

Later on the request of the members of the Opposition, the Chairman assured of personally looking into the matter.

Earlier replying on the call attention, Mr Yadav said the law had been enacted for the functioning of the Gram Kachahri and Rs 1,29,39,927 had been sanctioned for development of its infrastructure.

Nayaya Mitras were being appointed in the Gram Kachahri, informed the Minister.
