Tripura cabinet proposes to dissolve assembly

Agartala, Mar 4: Manik Sarkar led cabinet of the fifth Left Front government has recommended dissolution of ninth Tripura Assembly to avoid constitutional crisis apprehending expiry of the schedule of the next session.

Talking to the sources here today Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said an official communication addressed by Chief Secretary V Shashi Prakash, conveying the cabinet"s recommendation, had already reached the Raj Bhawan.Expectedly, governor Dinesh Nandan Sahay would approve the proposal of dissolving the house today before his scheduled departure from the state.

Mr Sarkar, however, stated that the meeting of the state cabinet, which came off last evening, had made the recommendation in view of the scheduled session of the Assembly on March 10.

The last session of the assembly was on September 10, 2006 and as per the parliamentary procedure the next session has to be within six months.

But announcement of the results of tenth Assembly Election would be announced on March 7 would be followed by reconstitution of the assembly by March 18, Mr Sarkar added.
