Teenaged lovers commit suicide,girl's body thrown into river
Kapurthala, Mar 4 (UNI) Two teenaged lovers allegedly ended their lives by consuming poison under a suicide pact in village Begowal in this district last night, police today said.
According to Begowal SHO Gurmukh Singh, the family of the girl, Rekha, threw the body into river Beas early today.
He said that Jatinder Singh of village Ghugg near Bhogpur and Rekha of Begowal, who were distant relatives, had fallen in love but the girl's family opposed the affair.
Jatinder Singh went to the house of his beloved last night and both allegedly consumed poison.
According to police, when the parents of Rekha came to know of the incident in wee hours today, they found the girl dead and the boy in a critical condition.
The girl's family threw her body off in the river Beas allegedly with the help of two municipal councillors.
Meanwhile, the boy's family reached the girl's house and found their son struggling for life. They rushed him to the hospital but he could not be saved.
Police has recovered a suicide note from the pocket of boy in which the the two had declared that they were committing suicide as they had ''failed in love'' but their parents should not be blamed or harassed for their act. Both families were engaged in farm labour.
Police has registered a case under section 174 CrPC on the statement of Buta Singh, father of the boy.
The parents of the girl and Municipal Councillors had been absconding after allegedly disposing of the body.
The SHO said police would take action against all those involved in throwing away the body.
