2 killed in storm, 500 houses destroyed in North Bengal
Malda, Mar 4 (UNI) Two people were killed in a hailstorm which raged through Gajol and Harishchandrapur blocks in the district last night.
Police today said one woman was killed when the house roof caved in at Harishchandrapur block. About 500 huts were razed to the ground and mangoes and vegetables damaged.
In Gajol block a boatman was killed when the country boat he was rowing overturned.
District Magistrate Chittaranjan Das said he has asked the SDO to take adequate measures after making an on-the-spot assessment.
Meanwhile, the road to Ghoom in Darjeeling district was blocked due to the hailstorm.
Jalpaiguri Met office has said there will be more rainfall and storm in North Bengal in the next 48 hours.
