Richard Williams mulls launching welfare programmes in India

Bangalore, Mar 2 (UNI) Richard Williams, father of the Tennis star sisters--Serena and Venus, intends to launch welfare programmes in India to uplift the poor and the underprivileged.

Mr Richards, who is accompanying his daughters for the Bangalore Open, told newspersons ''I am pained to see poor people suffering in India. I want to take up a project to uplift them economically''.

To a question, he said there were many American companies functioning in India, which would support me in my project. This is my first visit to India and after seeing the condition of the poor I feel something should be done for their welfare.

About Indian Tennis, he said ''of late it's really picking up.

There are many upcoming players who have made a mark in the international arena.'' UNI MSP AJ AB KN1811
