Lalu calls upon underprivileged to remain united

Patna, Mar 2 (UNI) Railway Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad today called upon the underprivileged in Bihar to be strong and fight as a ''cohesive entity'' for achieving their due status in society.

Addressing a function organised here to mark the 630 th Birth anniversary of great saint Ravi Das, who had worked for the cause of downtrodden section of society, Mr Prasad said the underprivileged should remain united to defeat the ''vested interests'' of the political mileage by giving false promises to them.

Recalling the contribution of Ravi Das for the uplift of the oppressed sections, the RJD president said his teaching and messages were still relevent and he (Ravi Das) should not be limited within the parameter of a particular caste.He said he had already announced several measures for women and senior citizens in his railway budget proposals.

Addressing the function, Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said that Centre had decided to increase the allocation for each dwelling unit under Indira Awas Yojna(IAY) from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35000.

Among others union water resources minister Jaiprakash Yadav, State RJD president Abdul Bari Siddiqui, national spokesman of RJD Shyam Rajak were also present on the occasion.
