'Spark' pushes GM Feb sales growth by 80 pc

New Delhi, Mar 1: General Motors India, a subsidiary of the Detroit-based General Motors Corporation, today said that led by its strong sales in Chevrolet Spark, the number of cars leaving its showrooms have increased 80 per cent to 5,563 units in February 2008 as compared 3,087 units in the corresponding month last year.

The February 2008 sales comprise of 1,681 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1,102 units of Chevrolet Aveo, 360 units of Chevrolet Optra, 2,229 units of Chevrolet Spark and 191 units of Chevrolet Captiva, said a statement. Commenting on the sales VP GM India PBalendran said, ''We are very pleased to see such a robust growth for all our carlines under the Chevrolet brand. With the consistent surge in monthly sales, our key focus remains to address the changing customer needs while providing them world class products and best in class service. The Chevrolet Captiva which is the latest one to join the Chevrolet bandwagon is also receiving rave reviews from auto experts and customers alike.'' GM India is also rapidly expanding its dealership and service centre network to support its ever increasing market demand for its products.

By the end of this year, it intends to put in place 125 sales points and 135 service outlets across the country from the current tally to 108 sales points and 113 service outlets.

GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Optra Magnum, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet SRV, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Tavera at its facility in Halol, Gujarat.
