Shanmugham asks party workers not to yearn for power

Puducherry, Mar 1: Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee President P Shanmugham today exhorted the party workers not to yearn for power.

Inaugurating the INTUC union at a private industry at Jawhar Nagar here, Mr Shanmugham said party workers should work hard without craving for power.

In an apparent reference to former Minister P Angalan, Mr Shanmugham said ''how can we justify a person, organising a procession and submitting a memorandum for power.'' On Opposition's allegations that there was no development in Puducherry, Mr Shanmugham said '' I don't know which place they are referring to.

Right from Bahour to Kalapet, all the villages have been developed under the Congress regime.'' In an indirect attack on the scheme launched by Chief Minister N Rangasamy to provide a subsidy of Rs one crore for the construction of hotels, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy, who also spoke said he would have strengthened the basic amenities in the state rather than launching such a scheme.
