Kottayam, Mar 1 (UNI) Kerala Congress leader K M Mani, MLA, today took strong exception to the state government's alleged move to ''sabotage'' the Meenachil River Valley Project.

Addressing a press conference here, he alleged that the move, in the name of expert committee report, was ''politically motivated.'' After conducting the feasibility study, the previous UDF Government had given sanction for the first stage of the Rs 65 crore project. The government could not implement it because of the elections, Mr Mani said.

The project would solve the drinking water problem of the entire district. As many as 22 drinking water projects on Meenachil river would be benefitted by this project, he said.

He alleged that the LDF Government was trying to ''sabotage'' the project as it was not interested in the development of Kottayam district. He also warned of intense agitations if the project was not implemented.

Mr Mani termed the Union Budget as ''realistic'' and said the waiver of loans availed by farmers would empower them.
