UP to set up 20 college of excellence for higher education

Lucknow, Feb 29(UNI) Uttar Pradesh higher education minister Rakesh Dhar Tripathi today announced that 20 colleges in the state would be turned into centres of excellence for higher education in the state during the current financial year.

He said Rs 20 crore had been sanctioned for the purpose under the pilot project of which 10 colleges will be selected from the governmment institutions and the rest 10 from aided colleges.

Announcing this in the state assembly during the budget speech of the higher education department, Mr Tripathi said that the government had also decided to take up about 125 colleges for turning them into a centre of excellence in the next five year.

Reiterating his committment to regularise the education calender in the state, the minister said that the universities have been directed to start all examinations in the first week of March while the results would be declared latest by the June 30.

He also said that six universities in the state would start research faculty on the name of Kanshi Ram while in 10 colleges, graduate courses would be started.
