Convergence, Data cards prices set to fall
New Delhi, Feb 29 (UNI) The Budget 2008-09 today proposed setting up 100,000 broadband rural kiosks with an investment Rs 75 crore, state wide area networks for Rs 475 crore rupees and state data centres for Rs 275 crore.
Reduction in customs duty and exemption from excise duty will push down the prices wireless data cards and set top boxes.
Also the prices for convergence products while bundle broadcasting and data services together such as triple-play, DTH, IPTV and mobile TV will get reduced.
The telecom companies will get benefited from marginal decrease in CENVAT from 16 to 14 per cent.
The cut in the project import duty is expected to be benefit new telecom service providers who will strengthen their services globally.
