Cong boycotts CM's speech in MP Assembly
Bhopal, Feb 29 (UNI) The opposition Congress members in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly today boycotted Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's speech on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address to the house to protest disrupting leader of opposition Jamuna Devi's speech.
Ms Jamuna Devi had stopped her speech midway due to repeated disruption by the treasury bench.
The Congress members left the house as Speaker Ishwardas Rohani allowed few ruling party members to raise their point even as the leader of the opposition was on her feet. He, however, counselled the members not to intervene when the leader of the opposition and the chief minister were speaking.
Samajwadi Party member Dr Sunilam also staged a walkout at the fag end of Mr Chouhan's speech alleging the Chief Minister had not made any announcement to waive farmers' loan and withdrawal of cases registered against farmers for alleged electricity theft.
The Chief Minister and his few cabinet colleagues also lamented that former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, who made serious allegations against the BJP government yesterday, was not present in the house during Mr Chouhan's speech.
After the Chief Minister's speech, the house adopted the motion of thanks on the Governor's address after rejecting all amendments by voice vote.
